The Hover Camera Passport is a selfie drone that was officially announced last year. To take selfies with it, you have to connect it to a mobile device in order to get it in the air and back down to the ground once you’re done. Zero Zero Robotics, the company behind the drone, wants to make the whole process a lot easier for users, which is why it has released a big update for the device.

The drone doesn’t have to be connected to a mobile device anymore to take selfies thanks to the new “Owner Mode”. Here’s how it works. The first step is to set up the feature in the app so it can remember your face. Once that’s done, all you have to do is get it in the air and the drone will do the rest. It will look around the room and once it recognizes your face, it will automatically start recording video and follow you around wherever you go.

The update also adds a few very useful gesture controls. Just wave at the Passport to take a selfie or use the OK gesture to turn off the Owner Mode. This means that the drone will stop recording and will stay in place in the air so you can retrieve it by hand.

In addition to these features, the device is now compatible with for Apple’s iMovie and Final Cut Pro X. As soon as you plug the drone into a Mac computer, you can import the video and pictures taken in either of the two video editing programs. It is also worth mentioning that even the Hover Camera app got upgraded with new features. It is capable of choosing the best-looking clips and putting them together to make a short video.

Another thing worth pointing out is that the drone is now even more affordable. When launched, it retailed for $599. You’re now able to get your hands on it for almost $100 less, as it will set you back $499.95. It is exclusively available on Apple.com and in Apple’s retail stores.
