DJI Mavic 3 Classic propeller arm

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic launched almost exactly one year after the initial Mavic 3 series drones. Aside from a few updates, the new drone is very similar to the older versions, offering the same great camera and a more consumer friendly price tag.

The primary cost saving measures of the Mavic 3 Classic are the removal of the secondary telephoto camera, and the 1TB internal SSD option remains locked to the original Mavic 3.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic overview

DJI Mavic 3 Classic folded

The DJI Mavic 3 Classic is a folding drone that hangs a stabilized camera below the nose of the craft. Four propeller arms fold out to hold tuned motors with quick release two-blade folding propellers.

Obstacle avoidance sensors protect your drone for all directions of flight, and DJI’s standard downward facing visual sensors help the drone auto-land with impressive precision.

One of the more exciting parts of the DJI Mavic 3 Classic is the ability to connect to a multitude of controllers. These are still DJI controllers, with OcuSync connectivity, but at least we have options. You can get the drone in a kit with a controller, of course, or bring along your existing RC-N1, RC Pro, or DJI RC controller.

The camera is the main selling point of this craft. The Micro Four Thirds shooter is an impressive camera unit. Offering several levels of zoom, a large 20MP still photo capture, and 5.1K video.

DJI Mavic 3 Classic features

Built for flying camera enthusiasts, the DJI Mavic 3 Classic is an impressive airframe that offers the most important features of the initial Mavic 3 drone. DJI’s next-gen flight systems offer huge flight time, amazing range, and all-direction obstacle avoidance, but most people will only really care about the superb Micro Four Thirds Hasselblad camera.

We thoroughly enjoyed DJI’s leap to a full 1-inch sensor with the DJI Mavic 2 Pro back in 2018, that excitement returned with the Mavic 3 in 2021. Though, the starting price of the Mavic 3 was north of two grand. Not an unreasonable price for the technology, simply a lot of money for those struggling in a difficult economy.

Shaving the secondary camera, eliminating the optional internal storage, and a few other simplifications bring the base-model Mavic 3 Classic price tag way down. Make no mistake, a full flight package, with the best remote and the Fly More Kit, still adds up.

For those that invested in the Mavic 3 previously, you’ll be excited to know that the new Mavic 3 Classic shares parts and accessories. Swap your batteries and propellers, if nothing else.
