Companies from different industries really like the idea of autonomously delivering orders to customers. Although most think that drones are the best option for this, there are also a few other possibilities. One of them will soon be tested by Domino’s.

The company plans on delivering pizza with the help of autonomous, electric six-wheeled robots, which are made by Starship Technologies. They have a top speed of 10 mph (16 km/h), but will normally deliver pizzas at an average speed of around 4 mph (6 km/h). Because of the speed limitation, the robots will only be used for deliveries made to local customers who live within a one-mile radius (1.6 km) of Domino’s stores.

The pizza delivery robots will soon be deployed, but only in selected Domino’s stores in Germany and the Netherlands. From the start, they will be accompanied by humans on deliveries, just to make sure nothing goes wrong.

In case things don’t turn out as planned, Domino’s might opt for a different autonomous device for their deliveries. The recently announced AT Panther comes to mind, which can be used both in the air as well as on the ground.

When making a delivery, the AT Panther can land on the street and then drive up to the customer’s front door. It can carry a package weighing up to 15 lb (6.8 kg) and can also be outfitted with cameras, robotic arms, speakers, signature pads, and other accessories.

The device is already available at an introductory price of $2,495, which is valid until April 5, or for the first 200 units sold. After that, the price will probably be increased, although the company did not say for how much exactly. It is also worth mentioning that the Ground and Flight Battery Package, which is required if you want to use the Panther, is sold separately and will set you back $1,199.
