ProDrone PD6B-AW-ARM robot arm drone at AUVSI Xponential 2018 drone and chairs good idea bad idea

Welcome to some weekend fun and entertainment with drones. We spend a lot of time scouring the web for news, information and more on all the great drones around the globe. In our travels, we encounter some fun and funny stuff, and we want to start sharing that with you. Our fun little Good Idea / Bad Idea series is on to a new topic, chairs.

Let it be known that we do not endorse or recommend anything we will post here, sort of a “do not try this at home” vibe, but somebody tried it, it was funny and here it is.

Drones and chairs or drones as chairs

Many of us fly drones for fun and entertainment. While we’re having a blast doing just that, others are using these powerful machines as tools to better people’s lives. To that end, we want to look at chairs today. For real, chairs. I mean, we sit a lot, and I bet you do to, wouldn’t it be great if we could combine a thing we do a lot with another thing we do a lot?

Before we begin, let’s get a few things out of the way:

Good idea: Pickup the chair

ProDrone builds some interesting machines. Based in China, they build a handful of drones that exceed FAA weight limits, including, at max capacity, the ProDrone PD6B-AW-ARM is a large machine that now has robotic arms attached. We’ve seen this drone before, but more recently we got to see the drone in action. You get that chance as well in the video above. I must admit, moving a chair around was not my first idea for a drone like this, I’ll just leave those thoughts to your imagination, but do hit the comments below if you want to take some guesses, or share what you would do with a robot arm slinging hexacopter.

(Bad?) Other Good idea: Fly the chair

The crew at Flite Test has been inspirational for us for a while now, and when it comes to making odd things into capable RC aircraft, there are few better out there. This time out, a gag turned into a fairly solid product, they took a simple wooden chair and made it soar. Best part, if you were careful, you can still use the chair as a chair. Forgive me for defying the normal multi-rotor designed aircraft that we normally talk about here on the site, this was just too much fun to not share.

There are no bad ideas here today!

Good idea / bad idea wrap up

As always, we officially recommend you do not try this at home. We want you to always fly safe, to obey all drone laws, but also to have some fun.

If you think this entire series is a bad idea, let us know in the comments below. Otherwise, enjoy the crazy antics caught on film.
