The Parrot Anafi is the latest drone from French company Parrot, which was introduced to the public a few weeks ago. Parrot has been a trusted brand for years, with popular drones like the Bebop 2 and the smaller Mamba drone.

What is the Anafi?
The Parrot Anafi is a foldable, compact and easy to use drone for the masses. The Parrot Anafi, along with most other drones with a similar price tag, comes with most of the standard features that are expected to be included on a drone at this price point. For your dollar, you are getting a slim machine that transports very well. The front propeller arms fold forward, the rear fold back, making a long and skinny package to slide into your backpack.
Along with portability, Parrot took to their own blog to explain the machine, they say they kept two major features in mind when designing Anafi, the camera and drone safety. The camera consists of a 21-megapixel 4k sensor that has the ability to shoot in HDR. The camera is seated on a stabilized gimbal on the nose of the drone. This gimbal is able to pivot straight down and straight up to capture new perspectives from the sky.
Parrot approached the safety aspect in several ways, including safety for the drone and safety for the user. Intelligent object sense motors and smart algorithms, in combination with a light-weight design and flexible propeller arms help reduce damage in an impact. Slow start motors help reduce handling incidents and data protection efforts look to keep your flight safe.

Where’s the obstacle avoidance?
The Parrot Anafi has an impressive set of features under its name, but it’s missing one important feature, obstacle avoidance. The Parrot team went into detail about this in a recent article published by DroneLife. Parrot said “It’s about the consumer,” having asked consumers what they wanted to see in the drone. The Anafi is a drone built based on these requests, making it very simple, folks like you and me said they didn’t want expensive sensors to prevent crashes, so Parrot didn’t include them. A controversial decision, to say the least.
